Michael Gervers

Michael Gervers (* 1942) ist ein kanadischer Mittelalterhistoriker.

Leben[Bearbeiten]

Nach der Promotion zum PhD 1972 (The Cartulary of the Order of St. John of Jerusalem in England (BM, Cotton MS, Nero E vi). A critical edition of the secunda camera containing deeds pertaining to the Order's holdings in County Essex) an der University of Toronto lehrt er seit 1976 Geschichte und Kunstgeschichte an der University of Toronto (nach drei Jahren als Assistant Professor an der New York University) und ist seit 1984 Full Professor.

Als Killam Fellow gründete er 1975 das D.E.E.D.S Project (Documents of Early England Data Set), das sich hauptsächlich dem Studium des mittelalterlichen englischen Eigentumsaustauschdokuments oder der Charta widmet. Er gründete zusammen mit Ewa Balicka-Witakowska von der Universität Uppsala Mazgaba Se’elet, eine Online-Datenbank mit über 65.000 Fotografien, größtenteils seiner eigenen, äthiopischer Kunst und Kultur.
